Teacher for a day
Yesterday I was a guest lecturer at Kevin’s class at SIM (University of Buffalo). The topic given me was “online communities” but I figured that since they’re young and have been under Kevin’s wings for a while now, that they didn’t need an introduction to online communities. Chances are, they are the online communities.
I ended up talking about online communities in the light of marketing and business opportunities that took place within and on top of them following the simple argument that “if you have a community, you have a business”. I shared examples I’ve come across and work I’ve done at Hill & Knowlton.
The students were a lovely, but mostly quiet (shy?) bunch, but I’m glad and impressed by their involvement in online communities including editing the Wikipedia, shopping on Threadless, and mucking around in social networks.
More on my talk at Kevin’s blog. Thanks Kevin also for filming me for everyone to see.
