All the way from San Francisco… a MacBook Pro!

My colleague, Audrey, just came back from VMworld 2007 in San Francisco and guess what I got? A brand spanking new MacBook Pro!

OK, so I paid for it. But it’s such a bargain. This is the deal I got:

Singapore store price: S$3,452.00
Singapore student deal: S$3,106.00
US store price: US$1,999.00 (w/o tax)
What I got: US$1959.52 (incl tax)
What it means to my countrymen: S$2,970.00

I was on cloud nine till my friend told me there was a ADC price of S$2,700+ (or something like that).

But hey, still a S$400 saving!

P.s. You know what else is good about having VMware as a client besides cheap MBPs from San Francisco? (Look at the photo above for the answer.)

  1. wow! that’s really cheap for MBP!! I also want! haha

  2. sweet deal man brudder..you can like use that $400 to buy yourself an nano or top up a tad bit and get Touch…fwah..

  3. Hi Ben, any problem with the 110V power adapter here?

I’m thinking of getting one when I visit Japan later this year. Not sure if it’s cheaper there.

  4. @Monkey, try to get the ADC price if you can. That one’s a steal!

@miss loi, no problems whatsoever. In fact, I can just use the old head/extension of my old iBook G4 for the Singapore plug.

I actually like the US plug, it comes in handy when you travel on planes that let you plug in laptops, most accept the US plug. =)

  5. reading up on the ADC student membership now lol - its US99 to join… i wonder if that makes up for the discount lol

but i was thinking i’ll be in cali in december… maybe can go check out prices if its really cheaper than Singapore

either way I must be crazy to buy another mac so soon lol

  6. Good buy Ben! I saw a couple of electronic bargains when I was in US last November. 2 things stopped me - warranty and the prospect of having to use a chunky US-Singapore adapter.

  7. *turns green with envy*

I’m hankering after the black MacBook. But I’m trying to find an excuse to buy it ‘cos my 3 yr old iBook is still running fine.

  8. Hey Ben!

im so jealous!! i want one too!

    i am still using a 12-inch ibook…i sound like a tech retard.

is the mac book pro any different from the ibook series? is it better? how?

  9. @rosalyn: Where do I start…
    - blazing dual-core intel chips
    - beautiful LED (not LCD) screen
    - 2GB of RAM stock
    - keyboard backlight

It’s a worthwhile upgrade. My last Mac was also a 12″ white iBook G4. Time to get a new one.

You know you want to. =P

  10. Just a tiny correction -

The Macbook Pro doesn’t use a LED screen. It’s still a LCD screen. The only difference is that this beautiful LCD screen is backlit by LED backlights (which gives a more even brightness than regular LCD backlight).

But, Ben, congrats on your new toy!
