Am I an Apple fan boi?
There’s some truth to this ad. My colleague Voal keeps reminding us Apple users how when Windows Vista came out we were saying it was “bloated”, too resource hungry, needs new graphics card, can’t run on VMware, etc. Everything that was bad about it was said. But when Apple released Leopard, it was the most fantastic operating system to date. 300+ new features and did you see the 3D dock!
Robert Scoble calls this “The brand promise of Apple“. Where Apple fans instinctively form a cult that is pro-Apple to the extreme. When something goes wrong with the Mac, it’s always your fault.
Am I an Apple fan boi who only has good things to say about the brand? I’d like to think I’m objective when it comes to technology, but I just got myself a new iPod Nano! And it’s amazing! OK, one fault though, the switch for putting it on hold is rather uncomfortable to reach for. But other than that, I love it! Hahahah!

Hey, when you make great things, you’re gonna have fans. If they don’t like Apple’s ads or their products, they’re perfectly free to not buy them. Most of the anti-Apple bashing seems to stem from old fashioned jealousy, and the fact that their product of choice (Windows) is so damn lousy.
What’s so unusual about being a fanboi? When I was growing up all the guys had their favorite make cars, favorite singing groups, favorite teams, favorite movie actors/actresses. Why would this sort of thing stop when it comes to computers or handsets or media players? Mine is better than yours is such a common feeling in human society. It shows a sense of pride in your choices.
Maybe there isn’t such a thing as absolutely better in a product, but what you like is what you like and what gives anyone else the right to say you shouldn’t express your feelings about the things you like. Apple fanboi, Windows fanboi. It’s all the same. I like Apple products, but I don’t think all Microsoft products are lousy, either.
