I was inspired today to follow the lead of Peter Kim and publish a list of brands that have been using the social media for marketing. This is a great exercise that has given me a good picture of what’s been happening. Unlike Peter’s, my list isn’t as long and it’s focused on Singapore.
What’s interesting is that in Singapore, there’s such a lot of blogger relations/events going on. Also, the oldest use of social media for marketing is NHB’s Yesterday.sg back in 2005! Well done Walter!
My list definitely isn’t exhaustive, so if you’ve got other examples to share, do send them my way or add them to the comments. I also plan to incorporate this into Ming Yeow’s Wiki soon. Hope you find it useful too.

Wow! Thanks for the effort! This list will sure be growing!
Hey Ben, great list of Singapore companies and agencies using Social Media for marketing. Ah, I came across Peter Kim’s huge list via ReadWriteWeb.
From the list, blogging sees to be the popular medium to engage users/customers/readers or to launch a product. Personally, I think this is not enough. Social Media does not stop at blogging alone as it is merely one of the many platform available to engage conversations. Also, I felt the companies/agencies should go dirty and be involved creating their own than rely heavily on bloggers. I think, that makes themselves more real and creates a personal touch to their audience.
Thanks for the plug too!
Thanks for the comment Jonathan. I absolutely agree with you. I’ve given examples of what can he done in a previous post. The reason for blogger relations, I believe, is because most of the folks taking the charge come from the PR industry and in PR the main thing is media relations.
But this is where interactive agencies have a chance to play int he social media. Most of them already have contracts to maintain websites for these brands, the next step is to think about modifying them to encourage conversations over the social media.

Nice collection.
This is a great list
However, I would like to share an interesting viewpoint here.
Social media marketing is the most powerful form of marketing for small businesses and individuals.
As we transition from newspapers, TVs and radios, to blogs, youtube and podcasting, the small businesses have the chance to leverage on these very low-cost online channels to market themselves. It’s like owning your own newspaper (blog), TV channel (youtube) and radio station (podcasting)!
The sad thing is, very few small businesses realise that social media is an opportunity to out-blog, out-tube and out-podcasts these big brands.
